The difference between biodegradable & compostable.

We often see the word ‘biodegradable’ and 'compostable' on products that we buy. But what do they actually mean? Are they interchangeable? How do we differentiate between them?
Short answer is 'no' they are not the same.
The end product of these materials is the main distinction between them.
Compostable material breaks down into humus that is full of nutrients and are great for plants.
Biodegradable materials return to nature completely and can sometimes leave behind metal and toxic residue. All compostable materials are biodegradable, but not all biodegradable products are compostable.
